Dear Diary,
Day 7 of 21 days of quarantine. I’ve made friends, Diary! Online!
It’s funny how quarantining together in the same hotel creates a sense of camaraderie. I guess sharing a traumatic experience collectively really does bring people closer together.
The hotel I’m staying at has a designated whatsapp group created by volunteers who’s quarantined prior. It has been a lifesaving tool to get through this period.
Any questions regarding our hotel or swab tests can be answered by people in our whatsapp group.
We host little zoom parties.
We celebrate birthdays and major holidays together.
People leaving will send the remainder of their food to us. I’ve had someone send me their Suite meal (thanks Sandy!)
I feel like a Freemason, there is a sense of fellowship with us, like if we were out in the world and we knew we had quarantined together in the same hotel, we will jump in to help each other.
It’s amazing how this has let us meet people from all walks of life. I have met amazing moms, famous comic artists, clothing fitters, news anchors, lawyers, pilots, artists, etc. A group of people talking to each other without the barriers of social status or hierarchy in the way, while stuck in the confines of segregated hotel rooms, we came together as just human beings sharing an unusual experience during unusual times.
I never thought I would make such extraordinary friendships in 3 short weeks.
Yours Truly,
“Ma! I Made Friends”
Vicky
